Ground source heat pumps can lower your carbon footprint.

The water is pumped through a ground loop (a circuit of water pipes buried below ground level). Then, after being compressed, the water temperature is increased and transferred to your heating system.

The ground loop size will depend on the size of your property and how much heat you need. But, they can be laid horizontally or vertically into the ground. Also, these systems, like air source heat pumps are compatible with radiator heating systems, underfloor heating systems and hot water systems. Unlike Air Source Heat Pumps, for Ground Source Heat Pumps, the unit is installed inside the property. Sizes range from the size of a large filing cabinet to small enough to fit under the kitchen sink.

Ground Source Heating is highly efficient. For every 1kW of electricity used to operate the heat pump, it will provide 4kW of energy.
