Equipment in computer rooms is becoming more and more complex and compact. Consequently, computer rooms are watching their power draw and heat generation rise quickly. The increase in computer room power consumption, density and heat generation requires a more exact approach to a computer or IT room air conditioning design than it ever has before.
CRAC unit setup.
There are a variety of ways that the CRAC units can be positioned. One CRAC setup that has been successful is the process of cooling air and having it dispensed through an elevated floor. The air rises through the perforated sections, which form cold aisles. Then, the cold air flows through the racks where it picks up heat before exiting from the rear of the racks. Finally, the warm exit air forms hot aisles behind the racks, and the hot air returns to the CRAC intakes, which are positioned above the floor.
In the air cooled DX system, there are two essential components. Firstly a computer room air conditioner (CRAC) and secondly a condenser. Half of the components of the refrigeration cycle are in the CRAC unit. The rest are located outdoors in the air cooled condenser. Hence why it is often referred to as a Split System.
