Why is my tap dripping?

There are many reasons why your tap may be dripping. Some of these are easy to fix and can be done by anyone, others will require the help of a plumber.

Faulty washer

Tap washers can last a long time but some can last as little as 12 months. Dripping taps are a tell-tale sign that your washer needs replacing. If the washer is damaged and is no longer sealing the tap it can cause your tap to drip even when turned off. Read how to change a washer here.

Damaged cartridge

The cartridge found in mixer taps is responsible for regulating the flow and temperature of the water. Cartridges will wear out over time. This is a relatively simple problem to fix with some basic tools. Click here to read our step by step guide.

Excessive water pressure

If the water pressure in your system is too high, it can cause issues with the water flow in your pipes. This can result in pipes becoming backed up with water. With nowhere else to go, the water can start dripping out of your taps. The solution to this problem will be to call out a plumber to check your water pressure and fix it if it is too high.
