If you are wondering how to fix a frozen water pipe then read on!
If you think any of your pipes have frozen but they haven’t burst yet, you may be able to stop them from bursting if you act quickly enough. A plumber can fix this for you but there are also some steps you can take yourself whilst waiting.
- Turn off the stopcock straight away. This will cut off the water supply to the pipes. If you are unsure where to find your stopcock then click here
- Try using towels soaked in hot water to start thawing out the pipes. We would recommended that you start this at the end nearest to the tap
- DO NOT pour boiling water onto the pipes to thaw them out
- Use a hair dryer to blow warm air onto the frozen pipe
If your pipes have already burst, turn off the stopcock immediately and then call a plumber urgently to avoid flooding. Whilst waiting for the plumber to arrive, turn on all the taps in your property to reduce the amount of flooding.
